Bad Boys - Girl On The Run 1986 (AOR) US 320@

Bad Boy's fourth release came in the form of "Girl On The Run", a five song EP released in 1986. The band opted to release the record on their own label, Legend Records. With the limited distribution that is typical of indie labels, the album failed to launch the band back into the mainstream but it was well-received in parts of the midwest. Over the next few years the band slowly began winding down, as members defected to other area bands and solo projects. In 1998, the band reunited and has been performing locally ever since.

"Girl On The Run" is quite a departure from the band's 70's output, with a strong AOR slant full of embellishments like saxophones and keyboards. The band's grit has been replaced by a slick sheen that was very common for the times. The album's title track is clearly the standout here, though "Hypnotize" and "She Can Drive You Crazy" are also fantastic. Unfortunately, the two remaining tracks fall flat. "Midnight Love" lacks a strong hook and "The Longest Night" comes off sounding very formulaic and stiff. Overall, this is a worthy effort and a fine addition to the Bad Boy musical legacy.

This EP is extremely rare and usually quite expensive whenever it surfaces online. Check out this fantastic vinyl rip I've done and get hip to some rare Milwaukee AOR. You'll dig it. (Ronnie)

Bad Boys - Private Party 1981 (AOR) US 224@

Here's another rarity from Milwaukee's legendary Bad Boy. By the time "Private Party" was in record stores, the band had already spent three years struggling to regain its composure after the sudden split from United Artists Records. With their fanatical hometown following keeping them aloft through this lean period, Bad Boy launched Streetwise Records to issue their third album in 1981. Though the album gained them newfound critical acclaim, it was not enough to launch them into superstar status. The band slagged it out in the midwest for another five years before finally giving up the ghost. A resurgence in interest eventually inspired a reunion in 1998 and the band can still be found conquering venues in their region today.

"Private Party" is an astonishing accomplishment, especially considering the climate in which this album was created. Few commercially successful acts ever have the fortune of trumping their most fruitful period of mainstream visibility, much less those who have never quite bridged the gap between being underground and being household names. Bad Boy had spent several years trying to capitalize on the support they were receiving from United Artists, but mainstream success eluded them in every way possible. So, it's quite amazing that their first self-financed album would not only push their songwriting to a whole new level, but also result in a production that glistens with a punishingly clear sheen that rivals any major label's output from the same time period.

The album swaggers with confidence at every angle, complete with charging guitars, heavyhanded rhythms and a charismatic vocal approach that demands your immediate attention from the very first note. "Private Party" is the sound of a hungry band on fire and hellbent on making a powerful musical statement. There are literally no weak tracks to be found here, folks. It's that damn good. With a sound that blends Cheap Trick, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Kiss, the band blasts through all ten tracks with total gusto. The result is unquestionably the most relevant collection of tracks this band ever laid to tape. Need proof? Check out this fresh vinyl tranfer done by me. It simply blows away the previous version that was available here! (ronnie)

Climie Fisher - Everything 1988 (AOR/Pop) UK

Anatomic - In For The Thrill 2000 (Melodic Hard Rock) US 320

Here's the scene: You're back in 1988... well, that's it. You're back in 1988. This album sounds straight out of that era (which is a good thing, IMHO). If you were to pop it into a player and have people guess when it came out, no one, and I mean NO ONE would guess 2000. This is vintage '80s hard rock. The lead vocalist has a voice that seems like it would be more suited to sleaze glam, but this is first-class melodic hard rock. Very melodic stuff, full of hooks and radio friendly. Very easy to listen to and find your self humming along to the music. Any number of tracks on the album sound like they could have been top hits in the late 1980s.
Solid musically, with good arrangements. The choruses are excellent, pretty much of a gang-style chorus. Both the ballads and the heavier rocking numbers are carried off well; the heavier material has a good "crunch" to it. If I have one criticism it's that in places it sounds a little "low budget" and seems like a few rough edges could be filed down a bit more... I'm splitting hairs here. The bottom line is that this is an excellent album and it has a high "replay" factor going for it; you don't get tired of the disc. Get it now! Dan

Ryan Freeman lead vocals, rhythm guitars
Johnny Rowland lead and rhythm guitars
Jason Michael Eldredge drums, percussion

Wild Machine - Viciouz Luv 2007 (Hard Rock/Metal)

Underground Glam/Hard n Heavy from Athens. The band formed around the year 2000 taking the name from the great KISS song ''War Machine'' off the ''Creatures Of The Night'' album. Following the unfortunate passing away of their bass player and after multiple line-up changes the band took another musical direction and changed its name to WILD MACHINE. Having been likened to bands such as Britny Fox,Motley Crue, early Accept, and Krokus, the band also injects it's own punk energy and glam rock sparkle that sets them apart from their counterparts and gives them a contemporary edge. Wild Machine are known for their semi-theatrical extravagant outrageous performance, having some hard shows with names such as Gilby Clarke,Star Star,Ryan Roxie,Faster Pussycat,Skid Row,and lots of local bands. The first release is a demo with 3 tracks (Viciouz Luv,Suicide,Addicted),the band also plans an full-lenght album. Some titles:''Dirty Motel Room'',''Teeze Teezah'',''Gimme Action'',''Nasty,Oiled&Spoiled'',''Riot In The City''...

1. Viciouz Luv
2. Addicted
3. Suicide

Ochsenknecht - St 1992 (AOR) Germany

Pure AOR - Mark Spiro style. Spiro and Michael Thompson had a big hand in the songwriting on this album and it shows...superb hooks and well thought out arrangements that allow Uwe Ochsenknecht's voice to shone through the material nicely. Personal faourites are Affection, I Must Be Blind and Better With A Broken Heart. Undiscovered or overlooked by many an AOR fan, make no mistake...this one is not just a collection filler. Superbly executed AOR. Reccomended. Axe-Machine

Isis Child - Strange Days 2011 (Melodic Rock)

That is actually Horus Isis’ child, the name of it is Horus. The goddess Isis is known from the ancient egyptians and their mythologies, daughter of Geb and Nut she was. Her child was the son Horus which would seem to be the logical name for a band calling themselves such a thing, but maybe they were just thinking of Isis as the goddess of children, who knows. Thinking of these myths the artwork first seems quite good and cool which it still is even though it feels a bit distanced from the story of Isis and Horus as Horus was of male origin (maybe inbreeding can cause growth of wings and female features in a man) so it cannot be him on the cover and even if Isis is the female the hairdo is wrong in the cover art. Still I like the cover art, a bit of mysticism and beauty in one even if the story from which the bandname is contrived is different from the artwork...more info Here!!

Blue Ruin - St 1992 (Hard Rock) US

Some folks have praised this CD till they're blue in the face, but that doesn't alter the fact that it's substandard hard rock. Previous posters mentioned "Misty Eyed and Blue" as the standout song, but for me, the only track saving this EP from being an utter waste of time is "Rock and a Hard Place." If you're seeking some average, ho-hum hair-metal in the vein of Dream Police or Hurricane (but nowhere near as good), then you may find it worth parting with some green to get Blue Ruin...allen

Slick Lilly - Brotherhood 1992 (Hard Rock) US

Heard this one was rare (only pressed a few 100). Got mine a few years ago and just pulled it out. Some great hard rock with some Southern rock influences. Won't pick a favorite track cause I like all of them. Won't describe them as sounding like any other band because if all bands sounded alike there would be no point in collecting music at all. happy2849.
